Derrick Rose

On October 4, in 1988, 3-time All-Star in the NBA Derrick Rose was born in the city of Chicago in the state of Illinois.

Derrick Rose is an NBA basketball player with the New York Knicks in the United States (NBA). He played one year of collegiate basketball for the Memphis Tigers before getting picked first overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by his hometown Chicago Bulls. At the age of 22, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009 and the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2011.

Derrick Rose grew up in Chicago and went to Simeon Career Academy. He was heavily recruited by colleges, but he ultimately chose to attend the University of Memphis, where he would be coached by John Calipari. Rose coached the Tigers to the most wins in NCAA history (38–2), their first number one rating in 25 years, and a trip to the NCAA championship game. Rose’s SAT scores were found to be invalidated during an NCAA investigation in 2009, and the NCAA voided Memphis’ entire 2007–08 season as a result.

Since his MVP season in 2010–11, Rose has been plagued by knee ailments. Rose tore his ACL in his left knee in the first round of the 2012 NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose underwent surgery and was forced to miss the entire 2012–13 season. He returned to the NBA in 2013–14, but he tore his right meniscus in a regular-season game against the Portland Trail Blazers on November 22, 2013, forcing him to miss the rest of the season. The following season, he returned, although his availability and production were both hampered by knee ailments.

Derrick Rose was dealt to the New York Knicks in June 2016, where he completed his contract year. He signed a minimum-salary contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2017–18 season, however ankle issues forced him to be transferred to the Utah Jazz in February 2018, where he was later dismissed. A month later, he signed a rest-of-season contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and despite missing 31 games due to injury management, he had a career revival as a sixth man off the bench.

Rose received his first non-minimum salary contract since 2012 with the Detroit Pistons for the 2019–20 season, and he continued to be a productive bench player. He was re-acquired by the New York Knicks in a trade the following season, reuniting with his former coach Tom Thibodeau.

Derrick Rose, who stands 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m) tall and weighs 200 pounds (91 kg), is mostly a point guard. He has a career scoring average of 18.5 points per game. He has never been a knock-down shooter from beyond the arc, with a career percentage of 30%. After struggling with his jump shot due to what he attributed to depth perception concerns following eye surgery in 2015, he transformed into a bank-shot shooter during the 2015–16 season.

Derrick Rose was widely regarded as one of the most athletic point guards in NBA history during his prime in Chicago, before a series of knee injuries slowed him down. He was able to attack the basket regularly thanks to a combination of explosiveness, leaping ability, and speed, and he could also make passes to teammates. During the 2008 NBA Combine, Rose recorded a maximum vertical jump of 40 inches.
